Lakshmi
Lakshmi is the supreme goddess of prosperity and good fortune. She emerged from the primordial sea of milk, which I have painted behind her. Lakshmi’s emblem is the lotus, which she holds in one hand. Lotuses have their roots in the mud on a lake bottom, yet the flowers rise above the lake, untouched by the muck. They are symbolic of the enlightened, whose feet are in the dust of the world, yet they have transcended the material realm to a state of pure consciousness. In another hand she holds a vessel filled with the nectar of immortality, topped with a coconut. With one hand she blesses all creation, and with another she bestows on the viewer an endless supply of gold coins. In my depiction of Lakshmi, her throne is a divine lotus which beams the rainbow rays of heaven onto the earth.
